Announcing the 4th Annual WHAT A CHARACTER! Blogathon

UPDATE – November 21: WHAT A CHARACTER! Day 1 Posts are here.

UPDATE – November 13:
The WHAT A CHARACTER! Blogathon has been postponed until next weekend, November 21-22-23. We will promote everyone’s post as usual during those three days. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

WE’RE BACK for number 4!

WHAT A CHARACTER! — a phrase borrowed from Turner Classic Movies (TCM) so that we could dedicate a blogathon to those whose names few remember, but whose faces are familiar – honors the players who rarely got leading parts, exhibiting instead a versatility and depth many leading actors wished they had. Aurora, Kellee, and I never tire of seeing them show up in films or paying tribute to their talents, and as the previous three installments of this event have proven, neither do you. So here we are with the fourth annual WHAT A CHARACTER! Blogathon.

What-A-Character-2015-02To say we’re thrilled is an understatement, and we hope you’ll join us in spotlighting the Eugene Pallettes and Gail Patricks of the world, whose talents never got above-the-title credit. If this is right up your movie alley, then give us a shout out…

Kellee at Outspoken & Freckled or (@IrishJayHawk66) or Kellee Pratt

Aurora at Once Upon a Screen or (@CitizenScreen) or Citizen Screen

or here at Paula’s Cinema Club or (@Paula_Guthat) or Paula Guthat

We ask that you please adhere to the following:

  • Let one of the hosts know which character actor is your choice. Since there are so many greats worthy of mention, we won’t take any repeats and we’re not limiting these to “classic” actors. Great character actors who have made their mark since the end of the classic era deserve some attention as well, so the field is wide open. Note also that classic TV actors are fair game this year as well.
  • Don’t take it for granted that we know exactly who you are or where your blog resides – please include the title and url to your blog in your comment, tweet or FB post.
  • Publish the post for either November 14, 15 & 16. Let us know if you have a date preference, otherwise we’ll split publicizing duties equally among the three days.
  • Please include one of the three blogathon graphics on your blog to help us publicize the event and also include it in your post.
  • It would be really helpful if you can send any of us the direct link to your post. Searching on social media sites can lead to missed entries.
  • HAVE FUN and spread the word! There are many great characters worthy of attention.

A big thank you – HAPPY BLOGGING!

  1. Hi there! I’m copying this to all three blogs just in case :-D. I would love to participate in this blogathon. My choice of character actors is Gladys Cooper. I really love her!

I would prefer to post for the blogathon on Saturday, November 14th because I post every Friday to my blog about classic films, so this would fit my timetable a bit better than later in the weekend.

  2. Reblogged this on Scribblings from the Bluegrass and commented:
Though I haven’t participated by writing a post (don’t know enough and too lazy to research…), I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading posts about my fave character actors. If you have one you love, add a post. Otherwise, make sure to mark your calendar to read and enjoy.

  3. Hi there Paula – Looking over at Once Upon A Screen’s blog page, I see Peter Lorre is STILL available, so I’d like to cover this character actor extraordinaire. My blog is CineMaven’s Essays From The Couch ( https://cinemavensessaysfromthecouch.wordpress.com/ ) and I’d like to shoot for publishing on the blogathon’s first day, Saturday – November 14th, 2015. There’s three his films that I’d like to talk about briefly.

    1. I replied to this yesterday, I have no idea where my comment went! You have been added to the list, and Peter Lorre is a great choice 🙂

  4. Hi Paula, I don’t know how I missed this. Would it be okay if I jumped on the bandwagon right as you release the parking break. if it’s not too late could I do, Eli Wallach?
